Golden OPEN Acrylics

Acrylic Colour: Tri-Art High Viscosity

All Tri-Art Acrylics are manufactured with 100% pure acrylic emulsion producing a tough yet flexible film with excellent resistance to water, chemicals and ultraviolet radiation. High viscosity acrylics are premium quality artist paints with high pigment loading designed to satisfy the most discerning artists. Acrylic Colour: Golden Heavy Body

Golden Artist Colours are a respected innovator of professional acrylic paints. GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylics offer artists the ability to retain their brush marks or palette knife marks and create impasto effects. Artists immediately appreciate the rich, creamy texture of these heavy body colours that can be easily modified with an extensive range of acrylics mediums and gels. Acrylic Colour: Stevenson

D.L.Stevenson is one of Canada's leading manufacturer of artists' paints for professional, amateur and student use. Only the finest quality pigments and materials are used, with careful attention given to all stages of production. Stevenson acrylic colours are manufactured with permanent (light-fast) pigments and acrylic emulsion (Rhoplex). They are quick-drying, non-cracking and compatible with other acrylic emulsion paints. They also stock pigments and make a range of acrylic mediums which can be used for different effects and finishes.

Acrylic Colour: Tri-Art Liquid

All Tri-Art Acrylics are manufactured with 100% pure acrylic emulsion producing a tough yet flexible film with excellent resistance to water, chemicals, and ultraviolet radiation. Acrylic Colour: Golden Fluid

GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics equal the intensity of Heavy Body Acrylics but with the consistency of heavy cream. They were formulated for artists who wanted a thinner viscosity for staining, spraying and watercolour effects with the richness of color offered by Heavy Body Acrylics. Not all colours are available in fluids.

Acrylic Colour: Rheotech

Student paints have less pigment and are not generally as lightfast, therefore not recommended for a serious beginner. We carry two lines of student acrylics that have been carefully selected from a wide offering of student paints. We believe our two brands offer the best of affordability and performance for schools, youth and hobby artists. Good colour mixing, coverage, paint body, film integrity, flexibility and price are just some of the reasons we decided to carry Rheotech and Chromacryl.

Acrylic Colour: Chromacryl

Chromacryl has set the benchmark in acrylic paint for school use since 1964. Chromacryl allows students to develop varied and sophisticated adult painting techniques because it has the body and consistency of an artists’ acrylic. Chromacryl encourages and enhances creativity in the classroom.

Acrylic: Grounds & Gesso

There are four reasons priming a surface is important. First it covers the canvas, linen or board to prevent acrylics from seeping through. Second, two coats of an artist quality gesso provide a bright white surface to help reflect a colour's light and create a vibrant look to an acrylic wash or glaze. Third, it provides the perfect "tooth" or surface needed for proper paint adhesion. And finally, thanks to Golden, artists can create different textures of grounds to paint on. Acrylic: Mediums

Mediums are additives for acrylic painting to dilute, extend, and modify fluid or heavy body acrylics. Like gels, mediums can control sheen levels and create transparent layers. Gels create impasto effects while many mediums thin paint and make if more fluid and brushable. The most exciting and least understood aspect about Golden mediums is the diversity to which GAC products can modify paints to stick to many different types of surfaces or alter the relative stiffness of the substrate such as fabric or paper. Mediums are also available specifically for airbrush paints or to aid in the use of other fluid acrylics for airbrush application. Acrylic: Gels

GOLDEN Gels are an undiscovered and under-utilized secret of acrylic materials. No other medium offers artists the incredible array of options in surfaces, viscosities, transparencies, textures, glazes and extending possibilities, while maintaining great flexibility and a relatively quick drying time. Simply stated, gels are acrylics without pigment, drying transparent. Gels are designed for use with acrylic paint to change the paint’s characteristics. They may also be used alone to provide a transparent layer or to provide texture. There are no limits to gel uses. Gels come in different surfaces: gloss, semi-gloss and matte.

Varnishes can assist the artwork in many ways. They can be used to unify the sheen, making the surface more matte, satin or gloss. Varnishes also protects paintings and allows for ease of cleaning. Golden Varnishes contain Ultraviolet Light Stablizers (UVLS) to protect artwork from fading. The application of varnishes is a topic which generates frequest questions. A final varnish is necessary for all paintings because of the surface protection it provides, making cleaning of the artwork easier and safer. Varnishing will also create a more even surface sheen. The artist may choose from high gloss, satin or matte finishes. Varnishes amy be brushed or sprayed on. Retouch varnishes spray only) are an intermediate varnish used to even out high and low gloss spots while still working on a painting.
