Easels: Studio

These easels are not meant to be portable. They can be medium to very large in size and are thus the most stable platform. They are designed to allow the serious amateur or professional painter to support small, medium, or large canvases up to 8 feet high. Studio easels can range from $50 to $1500, offering a variety of choices and features. Our suppliers have more easels than we can stock here. Talk to us about your easel wants and needs.

Easels: Travel

Travel easels are light-weight and compact, enabling artists to take them wherever they go, or to just tuck out of sight into the closet when not in use. Due to these features, don’t expect a travel easel to be stable like a studio easel, or accept large canvases (who wants to travel with a 60 inch canvas anyway). This model is well suited for watercolour as well as oil and acrylic, having a mast with an adjustable slant to enable you to alter the angle of the painting and control the flow of colour. Telescoping legs make it transportable and also convertable to tabletop format. Some styles are known as French easels, which are a beautiful wood easel mounted onto a lidded storage box, with 3 foldaway legs. The French easel has a carrying handle, but the easy addition of backpacking straps (or a frame) makes it the choice for hiking and camping. The new Guerrilla Painter Pochade Box featured here is becoming a popular alternative to the French easel for plein air painting. Although accommodating to a smaller canvas, it is also half the weight and able to store 2 wet panels protected and enclosed.

Easels: Table Top

These are smaller than other easels and portable, so seem well suited to the beginner. They cost less, and lend themselves to being carried to class or just to another room in the house. As the name suggests, they are meant to placed on a table where the artists would paint from a sitting position. However, they have a very limited size capacity, usually accommodating a canvas up to 25". Our tabletop easels are all made of wood, but we also have a collapsible steel easel which can be used as a tabletop or standing easel. See Travel Easels for a multi-purpose alternative.

Easel Boxes, Paint Boxes and Cases

Some of our easelboxes are made locally in Alberta . Paint(equipment) boxes are available in several different styles. The one illustrated combines a table-top easel with a sliding drawer for holding supplies. The traditional wooden box is available as an equipment box or easel box.

Drafting Tables

Drafting tables are functional addition to any studio useful for crafts, calligraphy, drawing and watercolour. We stock 2 unique drafting tables to suit a tight studio or small apartment budget with style.

Portfolios & Presentation Cases

Portfolios are for protecting, carrying, and presenting works of art. Choose your portfolio based on how you plan to use it. Do you carry supplies and equipment in your portfolio, as well as finished works of art? The portfolio that's best for a job interview or client presentation might not be suited to the wear and tear of everyday use. Presentation cases are portfolios that contain a ring binder and sheet protectors. They are designed more for presentations than for transportation and everyday use. A presentation case typically comes with a supply of sheet protectors, and it may have the capacity to store more. Additional sheet protectors, compatible with the ring mechanism, can be ordered separately.

Palettes: Oil & Acrylic

We stock a wide variety of palette surfaces for oil and acrylic painters - wood, glass or plastic are available in the traditional open flat style, either rectangular or kidney shaped, most with thumb hole. Butcher trays are available for a contained area palette, Stay-Wet palettes will keep acrylics your colours from drying on your palette, disposable palettes(pad) are handy for taking to art classes.

Grid Wall

Standard gridwall is easily customizable for any retail or display space, either wall-mounted or as a free-standing display. Available in Chrome or Black. Palettes: Watercolour

Watercolours remain resoluble; so they can be left out on the palette and re-wet at any time. Palettes provide (white) areas known as wells, to hold and mix colours. Large wells are useful for both mixing large amounts of colour at once, and allowing larger brushes to access the paint once mixed with water or mediums. Palettes with lids are handy for transportation, and some fold up making them convenient for travel.

Projectors & Light Tables

These can be real time-savers. Project your desired image and enlarge as needed onto your surface. Drawing and composition problems can be eliminated. Light tables can be very useful for tracing images the same size or viewing slides. We are able to get more models than are currently stocked. Call us for info and let us know your needs.
