Varnishing acrylics is important because it unifies the sheen level and creates durable paint film that is easy to clean and removed if necessary. It also reduces the tacky feel of an acrylic painting.

GOLDEN Mineral Spirit Acrylic Varnishes with UVLS (Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers) dry to a tough, yet flexible protective finish. The UVLS system provides increased resistance to the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, making the product suitable for exterior as well as interior application. For restoration purposes, the varnish may be removed with mineral spirits or turpentine. MSA Varnish can be used over a wide variety of paints, including acrylic, oil, alkyd, egg tempera, watercolor, and casein. As a topcoat for acrylics, it provides a harder, lower tack surface that is much less susceptible to dirt and is more mar resistant. It can also be mixed with oil and alkyd paints to accelerate drying and improve flexibility. MSA Varnish (Gloss) dries to a highly reflective finish. MSA Varnish (Satin) offers moderate reflection, similar to most matte varnishes. MSA Varnish (Matte) finish is exceptionally flat. The different finishes can be intermixed, or used sequentially, to achieve the desired sheen. Note that the matte and satin MSA varnishes will lighten dark value colors, which is typical of reduced sheen varnishes.

GOLDEN Polymer Varnish with UVLS (Ultra Violet Light Stabilizers) is a water-based acrylic polymer varnish formulated to provide additional protection from ultraviolet radiation. This helps delay the inevitable fading that occurs in materials that may be fugitive in nature. Polymer Varnish is designed as a topcoat for acrylic paints and offers a removable protective surface to the relatively soft acrylic paint layer. It has a harder film than most acrylic paints, which diminishes the susceptibility of the surface to dust and dirt, and provides increased protection from scratching, marring and moisture. It has adequate flexibility to withstand normal handling conditions, including loose rolling. For interior use only. The product is not recommended for use on furniture or other surfaces subject to physical contact during use. Polymer Varnish remains soluble in alkaline solvents, such as ammonia. This means the varnish can be easily removed; taking with it any accumulated surface contamination without damaging the painting surface. Acrylic Top Coat Tri-Art's revolutionary Acrylic Top Coat provides artists with a very hard, scratch resistant, yet flexible top coat for application onto paintings, sculptures and folk art. This is an archival water-based product which dries to a high gloss, glass-clear and non-tacky finish. It is washable and non-yellowing. Tri-Art Acrylic Top Coat pours easily, is completely self levelling and can be thinned with water. Top Coat can also be sprayed from an airbrush to produce a thin, hard finish. Once dry, it will remain flexible even in multiple layers and will not crack in thick application. To achieve a more matte finish, mix with Tri-Art Matte Polymer Medium. This is the ideal medium for sealing floor cloths painted with acrylic paints. Ultraviolet light absorbers and stabilizers have been added for superior stability and durability.

GOLDEN Archival Aerosol MSA (Mineral Spirit Acrylic) Varnish w/UVLS GOLDEN Archival Aerosol MSA Varnish w/UVLS provides a finish layer for fine artworks, is removable for conservation purposes, and offers excellent dirt, dust and moisture resistance in a flexible film. It is produced with clear, 100% acrylic solution polymer and contains UltraViolet Light filters and Stabilizers (UVLS) to provide archival protection, inhibiting light damage. These fast-drying, more convenient varnishes are available in Gloss, Satin and Matte finishes. The unique adjustable fan spray tip allows for precise application with reduced overspray. The products adhere to a wide variety of surfaces and paint mediums, including acrylics, oils, alkyds, watercolors, temperas, and ink-jet prints. The 12 fl. oz. cans contain enough product to achieve approximately 30-35 square feet of coverage. Envirotex Lite is a reactive polymer compound. It cures to a thick, glossy coating in about 8 hours at 70°F, and reaches full strength and toughness in about 48 hours. This durable, resilient material requires no polishing to produce a high gloss. One coat is all that is usually required for a deep attractive finish, however, two or more coats maybe applied one over the other by simply wiping the surface with a clean cloth and alcohol prior to recoating.
