Golden Acrylic Gels Why are there so many gels and mediums? Over the years, artists have continuously requested new gel or mediums that behave and/or handle differently than what existed at the time. GOLDEN has always listened very carefully to the customers. Through working directly with the professional artists, GOLDEN has been able to formulate the desired products. As a result, GOLDEN is recognized as the leader in the field of gels and mediums, and has a exceptionally broad range of such products. Admittedly, such a large number of different gels/mediums can often seem staggering and can confuse artists. However, with at least a general understanding of the various products available, and an inclination to experiment, an artist can create new ways in which to express themselves, and probably apply materials in a way that GOLDEN has not thought about. Please refer to our Advice Library for GOLDEN'S technical data sheet on "Gels Mediums and Additives"

Tri-Art Acrylic Gel Gloss Gel Medium Tri-Art Gloss Gel Medium is, in essence, high viscosity paint without pigment. Formulated from 100% pure acrylic polymer emulsion, it is white when wet and will dry to a glass-clear, glossy and flexible film. Tri-Art Gel Mediums have a creamy, buttery consistency and are capable of holding every texture detail from high peaks to a fingerprint. Even in very thick coats Tri-Art Gel Mediums will maintain optimal flexibility. An excellent colour extender or impasto glazing medium, Tri-Art Gloss Gel Medium dries to a water-fast film which will not yellow with time. Its superior adhesive quality also makes it the ideal medium for collage and mixed media. Matte Gel Medium Tri-Art Matte Gel Medium maintains all of the properties of its glossy counterpart but will produce instead a very matte and toothy finish. When mixed with Gloss Gel Medium, a full range of finishes can be achieved. Tri-Art Matte Gel can also be used as a photo transfer medium. Using a paintbrush or palate knife, apply the medium to any photocopied image, allow to dry, then wash the paper away from the dried gel film with lukewarm water. The ink will remain on the gel which can then be bound to the painting surface. Self-Leveling Gel Tri-Art Self-Leveling Gel is the ideal medium for creating thick, level glazes with brush strokes. When used to extend colour it will impart its self-levelling properties to other Tri-Art Acrylic products. It dries to a level, high gloss film which can be "etched" into when partially dry to create encaustic-like effects. Formulated from 100% pure acrylic polymer emulsion, this product has a milky appearance when wet and will dry clear. It increases the flow and transparency of Tri-Art Acrylic colours and remains flexible even in multiple layers. Tri-Art Self-Leveling Gel is the medium of choice when an even, glossy surface is needed for collage and decoupage.
