Varnishing
 Varnishing Workshop
Saturday, TBA
10 am – 12 pm
Fee $15 (Register at The Paint Spot)
Instructor: Kim Fjordbotten
“Is Varnishing necessary?” We feel it is. Varnishing unifies the shine level of a painting to create a more finished appearance. It provides protection for the art work both from UV rays and from dust. It may also eliminate the need for framing under glass. Unfortunately, this last step intimidates artists. Varnishing is easy but it seems so much can go wrong. Learn tips and techniques to keep the process simple and avoid common mistakes. Be confident in creating a finished effect that improves the look of the art and increases it longevity. Whether you are varnishing oil, acrylics, watercolours, functional art or even murals, this quick workshop will show you how to do it. We may even experiment with different gel coatings and varnishes for prints.

We will be practicing the art of seeing proportions and relationship through a simple way of perspective drawing called "sighting". We will try our hand at seeing lights and shadows and recording those values. All of these methods added together will enable you to gain the 5 perceptual skills of drawing and prepare you for a third class on portrait drawing. You will be amazed at what you can see and draw!! |
