Using traditional hot brushes and palettes, we’ll layer and fuse smooth glazes; build texture using cold brushing techniques; manipulate paint with a heated stylus; and excavate with etching tools. Mixed-media techniques such as image transfers, encapsulating and mono-printing will be demonstrated. Health and safety will also be discussed.

Students will create a sculptural Flag Book in the morning session. Each page of this book has one or more “flags” that can have text or photos pasted on it. The afternoon project is the Piano Hinge Book with skewers. This fun book has an unusual hinge binding of bamboo skewers that act as pins so the pages can move easily. The pages are woven over sticks instead of sewn. |

This class is for all skill levels. Drawing is an essential component of art. Students will learn to draw what they see using various materials. Here, they will learn line, composition, and 3 dimensional drawing using shading. This is a good class to take before Home School Art- playing with media, offered in November 2010.

Home School Drawing is recommended, but not essential to take before this class. Here, you will find the prerequisites for most curriculums (it contains a portion of the hours required for a high school option). Your budding artists will experiment with various mediums, including photography (must bring digital camera), printmaking, sculpture and painting. It even offers a look into the art and mind of an old master, giving the students some art history!
