Holbein Presents Mixed Media for the Curious Artist

This class is designed for curious artists that want to learn about the vast selection of Holbein Artist Materials available at The Paint Spot. In this creative, free-flowing class we will create 3 experimental, mixed media art pieces using Holbein Acrylic Paint and Mediums. We will begin by preparing the surface with one of Holbein’s innovative Colour Gessos. Participants will delve into their mixed media paintings as we learn about the various properties of each product line and how they are intermixable. Techniques with Acrylic Mediums and premade Gel and Paste skins will be discussed.

All participants will receive Holbein and Strathmore samples as well as literature to take home.

Participants receive a 20% discount on these supplies.

Student brings:

  • 3 6x6" cradled panels or canvas boards
  • Palette or palette paper
  • Your choice of brushes (bring an assortment)
  • Palette knives & mark making tools
  • Collage materials (e.g., images, writing, Japanese paper, gold leaf, tiny objetcs such as pebbles, etc.)

Materials Provided:  Instructor will bring an assortment of mark making tools, brushes, palette knives, samples of bits to collage and premade gel and paste skins.

Holbein Artist Materials:  Acrylic Heavy Body, Fluid, Mat & Ink   Fluid, Gel & Paste Mediums   Colour Gesso, Gouache & Acryla Gouache

About the Instructor: HK Holbein's Artist & Educator, Jamie-Lou Nicol was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in the small town of Verona located north of Kingston. Nicol graduated from Sheridan College in 2004 with a major in Advanced Glass Blowing. Over the years, she has exhibited her artwork in Ontario at numerous galleries and arts and craft shows. Jamie-Lou has a passion for abstract art and calligraphy. She has experience using various art mediums in her work such as acrylics, acrylic mediums, watercolour, pencil crayon, ink and glass. Since 2015, Nicol has been working for Holbein Artist Materials Canada where she works in sales and marketing as well as teaching Holbein demonstrations and workshops
