Is painting cats in watercolour as mysterious as cats themselves are? NO! You will be surprised at how much your painting will capture the feline mystique in this step-by-step class. Choose between the Orange Tabby and Scottish Fold from the instructor’s photo references. Complete a sketch for a perfect likeness that captures the form and detail of your subject. Next, learn to use create an underpainting, then continue to refining the image in layers, learning how to apply layers of fur without having to paint every last hair. Final details: eyes that are glossy, whiskers painted with control – delightful painting! There will be lots of one-on-one instruction. After learning from this detailed class, you will want to paint your own feline family member!
About the Instructor: Francis is a professional watercolourist specializing in realistic landscape, cityscape, still life, figurative, and portrait paintings. From an early age Francis has always had a meticulous fascination for images, how the world is represented in the eyes of others, and what makes beautiful scenes and objects eye-catching. Living in Jasper in 2007, then moving to Edmonton in 2010, Francis`s love of both the outdoors and the city has grown tremendously. Francis is a self-taught artist, but he has also had training at the City Arts Centre. His works have been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Harcourt House, and the Lotus Gallery among others.

Paint: Yellow Ochre New Gamboge Yellow Burnt Sienna Quinacridone Rose Burnt Umber Ultramarine Blue
Paper: Arches 300lb Cold Press, cut to at least 11x16” in size
Brushes: Good quality #8 Round, #2 Round; #000 (very fine); Rigger
Other supplies: masking tape 2 small round palettes 1 8B pencil 1 kneadable eraser
Bring suitable art clothes, hand-/tea-towel, notepad, snack, & drink.
