Instructor: Crystal Driedger
Recommended for Beginners
Create two beautiful, Christmas ornaments that you woodburn and hand paint! They can be gifted this year or kept as a reminder of a special moment in your life. Beginners & beyond are welcome to join in this class where you will begin with a pair of locally sourced birch slices, on which you’ll draw, woodburn, and paint. Use your own drawing (perhaps for baby’s first Christmas, first home, special holiday, etc.) or use one of several templates that have been designed especially for this class (a chickadee, a winter scene & an animal). Before you leave class you will seal and string up your personal Christmas decorations, ready for the season. Even if you’ve never handled a woodburner before, this is a great opportunity to learn a craft with many possible applications!
About the Instructor: Crystal Driedger has been creating fine art and illustrations fulltime since 2003 when she graduated from Grant MacEwan University, where she also taught illustration techniques/painting for 6 years. Her work can be found at the Royal Alberta Museum, in galleries, permanent collections and in shops & markets around Edmonton. Currently known for her relief wood carvings and oil paintings of cows, many of Crystal’s pieces are inspired by memories and imaginings from a childhood spent in the forests and fields of her family farm. She now lives and has her studio in Sherwood Park.
